American Business Women’s Day is an American holiday, nationally recognized every year on September 22.  It is a day set aside to honor and reflect on the contributions and accomplishments of the millions of women working in the U.S., whether they are in the workforce or own their own business.

The first annual event was sponsored by the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) on September 22, 1982. The following year a congressional proclamation officially recognized the day. September 22 also marks the 1949 founding date of the American Business Women’s Association.

On this special day, business women in the area will come together to celebrate ABW Day. Locally, there are several ABWA chapters in the Atlanta area and one, New-Roc Charter Chapter, that has been meeting consistently in the Newton and Rockdale area since 1989. Visit abwanewroc.org to learn more about this local chapter and abwa.org to learn about the national organization.

As recognition of women’s positive impact in business has grown, women’s empowerment has become a significant topic of discussion in development and economics. In addition to ABW Day, the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is presenting the we3 Women’s Conference on October 20th to engage, educate, and empower women. More information about this conference is available at conyers-rockdale.com/we3.
